Google Expeditions

With the popularity of Google Cardboard as a low-cost tool for VR and AR, Google was looking to bring this product into classrooms around the world. The idea was to allow teachers to take students on virtual fieldtrips using Cardboard and simple lesson plans.

The challenge for my team was to not only figure out a name and look and feel for the brand, but to create a simple user experience for teachers, students and adminstrations allowing technology to seamlessly integrate into lesson plans and curriculums.

The name Expeditions was given to the platform and a tool kit with a custom box fit with 30 phones, chargers, a tablet for the teacher and additional stickers to decorate the box were designed. In addition to the thoughtful unboxing user experience, the app was created and designed to put the teacher in control of the class allowing them to start, stop, pause and highlight moments of the experience.

To introduce Expeditions to the world, the Expeditions Pilot Program traveled the world in custom cars with the goal of taking over 1 million students on virtual field trips. I designed the car, brand and website for the Program. Read more about it on The New York Times.
